ABOUT MR. BONDS

"Those who work with students should model honesty and integrity..."

Wayland Bonds Elementary was named for Moore Public Schools' former superintendent, Wayland Bonds. Mr. Bonds began his career in education in Kansas with Liberal Public Schools as a math teacher and coach. He also taught three years at Olustee Public Schools before serving in the United States Army, then moving to Moore, where he began his service with Moore Public Schools as a math teacher at Central Junior High. After teaching high school math at Moore High School and serving as an assistant principal and principal at the secondary level, Mr. Bonds became the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction in 1993. He also served as Deputy Superintendent and Interim Superintendent in Moore before being named Superintendent of Moore Public Schools in 1997. Mr. Bonds was named the District I Oklahoma Association of Secondary Principals Administrator of the Year for the 1987-88. In 1988, he opened Moore's second high school, Westmoore High School, as principal. Mr. Bonds believes, "those who work with students should model honesty and integrity, and they should work with all students to help them reach their highest potential." Mr. Bonds himself modeled honesty and integrity for all of Moore Public Schools. In appreciation of his service, our new school has been named in his honor. After 33 years of dedicated service to Moore Public Schools, Mr. Bonds retired in 2004.
